Numbers tell the story only when you know the language. Use this guide to understand the traditional stats, player metrics, advanced analytics, and ranking terms used across More Stats.

Football — Basic Stats

The box-score foundation.

Completion Percentage (CMP%)

Definition: Completions divided by pass attempts.

Example: 24 completions on 32 attempts = 75.0%.

Yards per Attempt (YPA)

Definition: Passing yards divided by pass attempts.

Higher is better

Yards per Carry (YPC)

Definition: Rushing yards divided by rushing attempts.

Higher is better

Yards per Reception (YPR)

Definition: Receiving yards divided by receptions.

Higher is better

Tackles for Loss (TFL)

Definition: Tackles that stop an offensive player behind the line of scrimmage.

Higher is better

Sacks

Definition: Tackles of the quarterback behind the line on a passing play.

Higher is better

Interceptions (INT)

Definition: Passes caught by the defense.

How to read it: Higher is better for defenders; lower is better for quarterbacks.

Forced Fumbles / Fumble Recoveries

Definition: A forced fumble credits the defender who knocks the ball loose. A recovery credits the player or team that secures it.

CFB / HBCU — Offensive Advanced Analytics

How efficiently and consistently an offense creates value.

Success Rate

Definition: The percentage of plays considered successful based on down, distance, and yardage gained.

PPA / Play

Definition: Predicted Points Added per play, estimating how much each snap improves or hurts expected scoring position.

Explosiveness

Definition: Measures the value or magnitude of successful plays, emphasizing chunk gains and high-impact snaps.

Points / Opportunity

Definition: Average points scored when an offense reaches a meaningful scoring opportunity.

Standard-Down Success

Definition: Success Rate on downs where the offense is not forced into an obvious passing situation.

Definition: Success Rate in obvious passing situations created by down and distance.

Rushing Success

Definition: Success Rate limited to rushing plays.

Line Yards

Definition: A rushing metric designed to estimate the offensive line's share of rushing production.

Second-Level Yards

Definition: Rushing yardage gained after the runner gets beyond the defensive line and reaches the linebacker level.

Open-Field Yards

Definition: Rushing production generated once a runner breaks into the open field.

Higher is better

CFB / HBCU — Defensive Advanced Analytics

Allowed-efficiency metrics generally reward lower values; disruption metrics reward higher values.

Defensive Success Rate

Definition: The percentage of opponent plays that meet offensive success thresholds.

Definition: Average predicted scoring value allowed per opponent play.

Explosiveness Allowed

Definition: Measures the damage created by successful opponent plays.

Definition: Average points surrendered when the opponent reaches a scoring opportunity.

Havoc Rate

Definition: The rate at which a defense creates disruptive plays such as tackles for loss, sacks, forced fumbles, and interceptions.

Higher is better

Front-Seven Havoc

Definition: Havoc generated primarily by defensive linemen and linebackers.

DB Havoc

Definition: Havoc generated by defensive backs.

Stuff Rate

Definition: The percentage of rushing attempts stopped at or behind the line of scrimmage.

Standard-Down Success Allowed

Definition: Opponent Success Rate on standard downs.

Passing-Down Success Allowed

Definition: Opponent Success Rate in obvious passing situations.

Lower is better

Definition: Opponent Success Rate on rushing plays.

CFB / HBCU — Player Advanced Analytics

Player-efficiency and per-game metrics built from recorded CollegeFootballData.com game statistics.

Yards / Completion

Definition: Passing yards divided by completed passes.

Higher generally means more yardage per completed pass

TD Rate

Definition: Passing touchdowns divided by pass attempts.

Higher is better

INT Rate

Definition: Interceptions thrown divided by pass attempts.

Lower is better

TD : INT

Definition: Passing touchdowns divided by interceptions thrown.

Higher is better

NCAA Passer Efficiency

Definition: The NCAA passing-efficiency formula calculated from recorded passing yards, touchdowns, completions, interceptions, and attempts.

Formula: (8.4 × YDS + 330 × TD + 100 × CMP − 200 × INT) ÷ ATT.

Catch Rate

Definition: Receptions divided by recorded targets.

Higher is better

Receptions / Game

Definition: Recorded receptions divided by completed games with player statistics.

Receiving Yards / Game

Definition: Recorded receiving yards divided by completed games with player statistics.

Receiving TD / Game

Definition: Receiving touchdowns divided by completed games with player statistics.

Rushing Yards / Game

Definition: Recorded rushing yards divided by completed games with player statistics.

Rushing TD / Game

Definition: Rushing touchdowns divided by completed games with player statistics.

Tackles / Game

Definition: Total tackles divided by completed games with defensive statistics.

TFL / Game

Definition: Tackles for loss divided by completed games with defensive statistics.

Sacks / Game

Definition: Sacks divided by completed games with defensive statistics.

INT / Game

Definition: Defensive interceptions divided by completed games with defensive statistics.

PBU / Game

Definition: Pass breakups or passes defended divided by completed games with defensive statistics.

Forced Fumbles / Game

Definition: Forced fumbles divided by completed games with defensive statistics.

Field Goal %

Definition: Made field goals divided by field-goal attempts.

Extra Point %

Definition: Made extra points divided by extra-point attempts.

Points / Game

Definition: Recorded kicking points divided by completed games with kicking statistics.

CFB/HBCU player analytics use recorded game statistics. When 2026 player metrics do not yet exist, More Stats shows a clean no-metrics state instead of fabricating preseason values.

NFL — Team Advanced Analytics

Team efficiency, explosiveness, drive performance, and situational football.

EPA / Play

Definition: Expected Points Added per play. It estimates how much each snap changes a team's expected scoring value.

Higher is better on offense

Success Rate

Definition: The percentage of plays that produce positive expected value.

Pass EPA / Play

Definition: EPA per passing play.

Higher is better on offense

Rush EPA / Play

Definition: EPA per rushing play.

Higher is better on offense

Explosive Play Rate

Definition: The percentage of plays that gain at least 20 yards on a pass or 10 yards on a rush.

Early-Down EPA / Play

Definition: EPA per play on first and second down.

Higher is better on offense

3rd-Down Success

Definition: The rate at which third-down plays are successful.

Red-Zone Success

Definition: Success Rate on plays run in the opponent's red zone.

Points / Drive

Definition: Average offensive points scored per drive.

Turnover Rate

Definition: The share of offensive plays ending in an interception or lost fumble.

Lower is better

EPA / Play Allowed

Definition: Expected Points Added allowed per opponent play.

Lower is better

Success Rate Allowed

Definition: The percentage of opponent plays that are successful.

Definition: EPA allowed per opponent passing play.

Definition: The percentage of opponent plays meeting the explosive-play threshold.

Definition: The rate at which opponents are successful on third down.

Definition: Opponent Success Rate on red-zone plays.

Takeaway Rate

Definition: The share of opponent plays ending in an interception or lost fumble recovered by the defense.

Higher is better

QB Hit + Sack Rate

Definition: The percentage of opponent passing plays on which the defense records a quarterback hit or sack.

Position-aware 2026 player metrics from nflverse rosters and player statistics.

EPA / Dropback

Definition: Total passing EPA divided by pass attempts plus sacks suffered.

Higher is better

CPOE

Definition: Completion Percentage Over Expected. More Stats displays the mean of the recorded weekly nflverse CPOE values.

Definition: Completions divided by pass attempts.

Air Yards / Attempt

Definition: Passing air yards divided by pass attempts.

Sack Rate

Definition: Sacks suffered divided by pass attempts plus sacks.

Lower is better

PACR

Definition: Passing Air Conversion Ratio, describing passing yards relative to passing air yards. More Stats displays the mean of recorded weekly nflverse PACR values.

Rush EPA / Carry

Definition: Total rushing EPA divided by carries.

Higher is better

Rush 1st-Down Rate

Definition: Rushing first downs divided by carries.

Rush Fumble Rate

Definition: Rushing fumbles divided by carries.

Lower is better

Receiving EPA / Target

Definition: Total receiving EPA divided by targets.

Higher is better

Rec Yards / Target

Definition: Receiving yards divided by targets.

YAC / Reception

Definition: Receiving yards after catch divided by receptions.

1st-Down / Target

Definition: Receiving first downs divided by targets.

Target Share

Definition: The player's share of team receiving targets. More Stats displays the mean of the recorded weekly nflverse values.

Air-Yards Share

Definition: The player's share of team receiving air yards. More Stats displays the mean of the recorded weekly nflverse values.

WOPR

Definition: Weighted Opportunity Rating, combining target share and air-yards share into one usage measure. More Stats displays the mean of the recorded weekly nflverse WOPR values.

RACR

Definition: Receiving Air Conversion Ratio, describing receiving yards relative to receiving air yards. More Stats displays the mean of the recorded weekly nflverse RACR values.

Solo Tackles / Game

Definition: Solo tackles divided by recorded games.

Tackle Assists / Game

Definition: Tackle assists divided by recorded games.

QB Hits / Game

Definition: Quarterback hits divided by recorded games.

Passes Defended / Game

Definition: Passes defended divided by recorded games.

FG Made / Game

Definition: Made field goals divided by recorded games.

Longest FG

Definition: Longest made field goal in the selected season phase.

Punt Average

Definition: Punt yards divided by punts.

Inside-20 Rate

Definition: Punts downed inside the opponent 20-yard line divided by punts.

Higher is better

Touchback Rate

Definition: Touchbacks divided by punts.

Lower is generally better
Aggregation note: EPA/carry, EPA/target and similar ratio metrics are calculated from accumulated totals. CPOE, PACR, Target Share, Air-Yards Share, WOPR and RACR are displayed as the mean of recorded weekly nflverse values. NFL preseason player advanced statistics are not fabricated.

Football — Ranking & Display Terms

How No Chill Sports presents leaderboards.

Total

Definition: The player's or team's accumulated production across the selected period.

Per Game

Definition: Total production divided by recorded games played.

Weekly / Season

Definition: Weekly isolates one completed week. Season accumulates the selected season to date.

Games With Stats

Definition: Games in which the underlying provider has a usable stat record for the player or category.

Minimum-Game Requirement

Definition: A participation floor used for per-game rankings so a tiny sample does not outrank full-season players unfairly.

HBCU Universe

Definition: HBCU rankings are calculated only among supported HBCU programs rather than the entire national field.
